What does an eLearning Designer in Adelaide do?

Our eLearning Designer in Adelaide structures, designs and develops, reviews, and continuously improves online programs using e-learning development tools such as Articulate 360.

Unlike eLearning Developers who generally focus solely on the development of a program, eLearning Designers are involved in the actual design of the learning – including sequencing, content and instruction. The online education designer will typically work with subject matter experts (SME) to create the learning materials and design the flow of the course before then creating the program using an appropriate authoring tool.

What is the difference between e-learning and instructional design?

Whilst instructional design and eLearning both involve the design and development of adult learning experiences, there are some differences.

Instructional design involves identifying learning needs, establishing learning outcomes and creating learning solutions. Instructional Designers apply adult learning principles and instructional design principles to design learning experiences that support learners in developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to achieve the desired outcomes. Instructional design is a term that encompassing a range of delivery methods, including face-to-face, facilitator-led learning, self-paced learning, leader-led learning, on-the-job training, online learning and eLearning. In many cases, a blended learning solution is used. This means eLearning could for one part of a much broader learning solution that involves a number of delivery methods.

eLearning a specific delivery method. eLearning is completed online. It is generally self-paced. eLearning is typically responsive to various devices, including desktops, tablets and mobiles, however this depends on the authoring tool used to develop the program. Whilst Instructional Designers may design eLearning using a storyboard, eLearning Developers create the eLearning program using an authoring tool. eLearning Designers often have some skills instructional design, as well as eLearning development. Therefore, if an Instructional Designer decides eLearning is a suitable solution for the learning needs, the eLearning Designer can take it from there.
